Like most everyone these days, I’m a busy girl. Between work, school, and extra-curricular activities, there’s not a whole lot of time left to enjoy life and to go all out with gift packaging. When we were first married, I would pick a theme (my favorite was the year I did everything in ivory and gold with tons of stars), and go to town wrapping and making things to give. We didn’t have a lot of expendable income, so most everyone in my extended family got something handmade or from our kitchen. I’d bake tons of sugar cookies, then ice and decorate them and get everything packed up in pretty cellophane and ribbons nestled into gorgeous boxes, and then head out to deliver to friends and family. Now that I have kids, we bake cookies as a family and eat ’em ourselves instead of making deliveries. Our families have simplified much in the past several years, and instead of getting something for every single person (and getting more than frustrated at stores and lines!), we draw names or do random gift exchanges. It’s helped us all to get back to what we love most – spending time with our families instead of running ragged and getting stressed out. That’s where my JustRite stuff comes into play! I can still be me by adding the little personal touches that I love so much AND I can use the pretty stuff I’ve accumulated over the year! Just ask my cousins – they can always tell which gifts I bring to the annual gift exchange just by checking the gift wrapping!
One thing that I love to do is stamp a bunch of tags. It’s something I can do while watching a movie with the kids, and something that makes me feel like I’m not a slacker. 🙂 The Merry Little Christmas Stamp Set will be my go-to set for tags this year. Here are two little projects I made while watching a movies and unwinding after a quick weekend trip up to Dallas. I knew I wanted to do something with this stamp and candles, so I hit my little gift stash in the hall closet, and got to crafting. Here’s a mini candle with a cardstock band. . .
and a Yankee candle warmer and little wax pie tarts packaged in a box I made using cardstock, heavy acetate, some Scor-Tape and my trusty Scor-Pal. Confession time: What you’re seeing in that box has already been used, and there’s no way this will actually be given to someone this year. It was a gift I got last year, and when I was looking for something to wrap up, I thought, “Oooooooh! That would be pretty in a clear box with that holly border and some ribbon and a hangy tag!” . . . Nevermind that it had a light coating of dust over the hardened wax. . . Anyway, now that I have a pretty box, I need to find something to put inside it that hasn’t already been used! 🙂
